In continuation of the 12th and 13th combined convocation ceremony of the Osun State University, the Christian community of the university had a special Thanksgiving service at Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium on the main campus of the university in Osogbo on Sunday.
The program began with an opening prayer from a representative from the College of Management & Social Sciences. A moment of joyous songs and dancing followed as the Chapel Praise team led the congregation in a worship and praise session. It was a beautiful scene to behold as hymns were rendered with so much enthusiasm and joy in the hearts of the students, graduates, staff, and members of the university management who gathered to praise and worship God.
The university Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, led the bible reading and he read from Psalm 100. After the bible reading, two choirs ministered in songs on how God has helped the graduates and the school management to achieve such a landmark in the history of the school.
The Guest minister, Pastor I.G Awotanmi, the area superintendent of The Apostolic Church Nigeria (TACN), Osogbo, admonished the congregation about the importance of living a life that is worthy and pure before the Lord using Psalms 100 as his message focus. “God only takes the praises of the sheep and not disobedient hearts.” Pastor Awotanmi said in his sermon.
He also emphasized the sovereignty of God, as He is the LORD. He said that God is the Lord could be translated as God is the captain, director, or pilot of this earth. He urged the congregation to live in obedience to the Lord, giving the reason that such is the first praise to offer to the Lord.

The convocation Thanksgiving was led by the Chapel Praise Team as the graduands and students were first ushered to the podium for celebrations in appreciation to God. Then, the staff and school management led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebooye, also showed their appreciation to the Lord.
Professor J.O. Olaitan prayed for the graduates and wished them good luck in their endeavors. A representative from the College of Humanities and Cultures prayed for the university.
In the remarks given by the Vice Chancellor, he appreciated the staff unions for being supportive and reliable. He acknowledged the tough economic situation in the country and promised the staff compensation for that. He added that the new payroll for the university staff will go into effect as soon as the circular reaches him. He mentioned some of the ongoing projects in the various colleges and the achievements that have been made since he came into office.

He stated that lecturers teaching some courses outside their college won’t have to travel to those campuses anymore, that an integrated learning system will be implanted whereby students on these campuses will watch the lectures live online.
He announced the plan to build a 2500-capacity convocation hall in the university. He also used the medium to praise and celebrate the university bursar, Mr. Abolarinwa Feruke, on his birthday.
He urged the Christian community to have a chapel building. In support of the chapel building project, the VC’s daughter, Olajumoke Adebooye donated a sum of one million naira to the project. The VC also promised to donate N100,000 monthly for five months out of his legitimate earnings as his contribution to support the project.
The guest minister, Pastor I.G Awotanmi, took the benediction and the service ended
