2025 UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Interns Week officially kicked off on Thursday, 18th September, 2025, marking the beginning of a three-day program (18th – 20th September, 2025) centered on service, knowledge, and impact.

With the theme “Empowering Medical Laboratory Scientists for Service, Knowledge, and Impact,” the event has already made remarkable strides within the Osogbo community and among young professionals, showcasing the relevance of Medical Laboratory Scientists in healthcare delivery.

Day One: Awareness Rally and Community Sensitization

The week opened with a spirited awareness rally across the Osogbo metropolis. Interns sensitized the public on the importance of:

Routine medical checkups

Early disease detection

Preventive healthcare practices

Residents received education on silent but deadly conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and viral hepatitis, which often go unnoticed until advanced stages.

A major highlight was the free medical outreach at Ajegunle Market Square, where over 203 people benefited from essential health screenings, including:

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) testing

Blood sugar checks

Urinalysis

Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment

Blood pressure monitoring

Other critical screenings

The outreach was expertly coordinated by MLS Adedeji Wahab (UTH YMLSF Branch Coordinator) and MLS Omotola Grace (Chief Intern, UTH), who led the team of dedicated interns. Their efforts not only improved community health but also reinforced the pivotal role of Medical Laboratory Scientists in building a healthier society.

Day Two: Symposium and Celebration of Excellence

On Friday, 19th September, 2025, the program transitioned into an intellectual and professional phase with a thought-provoking symposium at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital.

Key topics included:

1. Life After Internship – What to Expect and How to Prepare

2. Efficient Management of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

3. Celebration of Excellence

These sessions were designed to prepare interns for career growth, equip them with practical life-saving skills, and recognize outstanding contributions among peers.

Day Three: Closing Dinner

The week will formally conclude on Saturday, 20th September, 2025, with a grand dinner. This finale will celebrate the successes of the week while strengthening social bonds between interns, mentors, and distinguished guests.

A Week of Service, Knowledge, and Impact

So far, the UTH Interns Week 2025 has seamlessly blended community service, professional training, and social bonding. From providing healthcare access to underserved populations to empowering interns with career readiness skills, the event underscores the vision of raising Medical Laboratory Scientists who are ready to make meaningful contributions to society.

As the grand finale approaches, one thing is clear: the future of Medical Laboratory Science shines bright with service-driven, knowledge-equipped, and impact-focused professionals.
