Osogbo, Osun State – In a groundbreaking shift, Afolabi Oluwatobiloba Faruq has been elected as the new Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee (NANS JCC) Osun Axis. Faruq's election took place yesterday during a well-attended convention at the Osogbo Township Stadium, marking a new chapter for the organization that plays a pivotal role in advocating for the welfare of Nigerian students in the state.

In his inaugural address, Faruq expressed profound gratitude to the students and union presidents who empowered him with the leadership role, promising to uphold honesty, transparency, and student welfare throughout his tenure. Emphasizing the critical nature of his responsibility, Faruq vowed to prioritize the collective interests of all students and maintain a strong focus on making education more affordable for all.
“Our main focus will be to fight for affordable education for all students, and this will be our core campaign,” Faruq declared. “We will challenge systems that have placed our people in poverty and ensure that our voice is heard on issues affecting students across Osun State."

In his speech, the newly elected Chairman also highlighted the importance of unity and inclusivity within the student body, condemning any divisions within the organization. He emphasized that the NANS JCC Osun Axis under his leadership would work to bring together all members, regardless of institution, and engage in constructive dialogue to further the collective goals of the student population.
Faruq expressed strong support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, acknowledging the governor's significant strides in advancing education in the state. He reiterated that NANS JCC Osun Axis would work in partnership with the state government to help achieve its educational and developmental objectives. “No government in Osun’s history has prioritized students like Governor Adeleke’s,” he stated. “We pledge our full support and will mobilize for his re-election in 2026.”
However, Faruq’s address also took a serious turn as he addressed the growing concerns over student safety and the increasing militarization of student affairs. The Chairman condemned the attempted assassination of the Osun Transport Management System Chairman, Mr. Alowonle, and demanded the immediate arrest of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad Head, Mr. Moses Lohor, who is implicated in the incident.
"We stand with the victims of police brutality and will not tolerate any threats to our students’ safety," Faruq said, demanding the arrest of Mr. Lohor. "The recent actions of some security agents, who have turned against students, will not be tolerated. We call on the Inspector General of Police and National Security Adviser to take swift action to restore peace."
In response to the growing security concerns, Faruq announced the establishment of the NANS JCC Osun Axis Security Committee, aimed at protecting students and collaborating with security agencies to tackle the rising threats against the student body. He also warned that any attempt to destabilize the organization or exploit its name for criminal activities would be met with strong resistance.
The new Chairman wrapped up his speech by reaffirming the organization's commitment to justice, peace, and student welfare. He pledged to continue fighting for the rights of students, ensuring that the NANS JCC Osun Axis remains a force for positive change.
As the new administration takes charge, the NANS JCC Osun Axis is set to embark on a journey that promises to advocate for the collective interests of Nigerian students while holding both government and security agencies accountable.
“We will continue to fight for education for all, regardless of one’s economic status. The struggle continues,” Faruq concluded.
The new leadership's bold stance on students' rights and security promises to bring a renewed sense of purpose to the student body in Osun State.
